Entirely self-taught, Jef began his career in comics shortly after completing his civilian service as a conscientious objector. His first major project was L’Épée noire du Pentaskel, a trilogy published by Albin Michel and written by Claude Plumail and Serge Pradier. He then joined a collective project published by Nucléa, Requiem Tenebrae, alongside Nicolas Bournay.
He subsequently stepped away from the comics world for a while to make short films, travel, and, above all, pursue music with the band Ziou Ethnikal Funkdation.
He eventually returned to comics, working with Eric Corbeyran on Une balle dans la tête, published by Emmanuel Proust.
His other credits include coloring Les Enfants sauvés for Delcourt, working on Jeanne Puchol’s artwork, as well as Garous, Season Two, Volume One, published by Soleil under the pseudonym Nino.
He also worked on a graphic biography of Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors, Jim Morrison, poète du chaos, published by Emmanuel Proust and translated into thirteen countries.
In 2012, he moved into television, working on the series Antigone 34. There he met Matz (The Killer), with whom he began developing a project scheduled for publication in 2014.
However, it was with the six-volume series 9/11, created with Corbeyran and Bartoll and published by 12 bis, that he achieved major success.
Another significant project was Flash ou le grand voyage, written by Thomas Kotlarek and published by Des ronds dans l’O. The graphic novel is an adaptation of Charles Duchaussois’s eponymous memoir, originally published by Fayard and sold in more than six million copies.
